Last time, I gave you five surefire ways to trim your
utility bill. If you tried them all,
odds are, you’re enjoying a few extra bucks left over every month. Here’s a few more to help you out.
Windows and Doors: some nice double pane windows, and sliding glass doors, along with reinforced entry doors can go a long way to prevent any heat or ac from escaping…while you’re at it, have a close look to see if there’s any cracks of any sort around the window/door frames…those tiny cracks can amount to dollars sneaking out of your house every month.

***At right...the switch for the exhaust fan. At Left...the motion detector for the light...a small device that saves energy!***
Motion detectors: Both for outside, and inside. Got any little ones running around that constantly leave the light on? I do. Know what I did? I set up a motion detector in the bathroom in place of a conventional light switch. Its set up to turn off after a couple of minutes of no motion in the bathroom, and it saves us both the time and frustration of having to go around switching lights off. It may not be for every single room in the house, but, strategically used, it can be a good friend!
Insulation: Depending on how old your home is, you may need to redo the insulation to your home. If your insulation needs replacing, odds are you’re a/c is having to work overtime to continuously cool your home.
Ceiling fans: Believe it or not, ceiling fans can aid quite significantly in reducing your cost. They use just a fraction of the power of your air conditioner, and studies have shown that ceiling fans help cool a room an extra 8-10% when used in conjunction with your air conditioner.
Appliances: Not all appliances are the same. Not all energy efficient appliances are the same. Appliances with the energy star rating are known to be the most energy efficient of all…however, even these have some differences. Be sure to study up on what energy efficient appliances best suit your needs and lifestyle, while providing the most savings possible.
Once again, there are so many great tips around for saving
on your energy costs at home…using these five tips will go a long way to saving
just a bit more!
