Central Florida is home to numerous neighborhoods, and several of them have quite interesting histories. One of these intriguing neighborhoods is the small, well established neighborhood of Williamsburg, Florida.

The builder, William Levitt, considered by many the father of the American suburb. Williamsburg followed many same basic traits as other communities built by Levitt and Sons, Levitts company. Originally, the neighborhood of Williamsburg was named Levittown as well, but legal complications arose that led to the names change shortly thereafter Williamsburg opened. Levitt, the original visionary, of both Levittown and Williamsburg, sold his company to ITT, and one of the agreements in the deal, along with lots of money, was a temporary nationwide non-compete agreement. Levitt had to leave the American homebuilding business for an amount of time. In addition, after the expiration of the non-compete, Levitt would be prohibited from using the name Levittown, or any variation of that name, should he ever return to the American homebuilding industry, and, since Williamsburg was his first project after the expiration of the non-compete, he was quickly forced to find a new name. Rumors indicate that he named the community, Williamsburg, after himself, while others state he named it after the city, Williamsburg, in Virginia, since he was so fond of the city.
The area was originally an age restricted area. Only adults were allowed to live in the neighborhood. After some legal reviews, that soon changed in the early 90’s, and since then, the area has been a nearly perfect area for families.
The school zone is nearly legendary. The public elementary school, Waterbridge Elementary School, is and has been an A school for a number of years. The middle school, Freedom Middle School, has been widely recognized as one of the best Middle Schools in the area since its opening in 2005, and has maintained an A+ grade ever since then. The high school, Freedom High School, was recognized last year as one of the best public schools in the nation.
The area is centrally located, with Central Florida Parkway cutting right through the middle, and the Beachline Expressway(FL-528) at one of its borders. Nightlife and recreation is nearby, as the area is right next to International Drive.
Homes range from 2-4 bedrooms, with a small amount of 5 bedroom homes and 1 bedroom town homes in the area as well. It is not uncommon to see homes go under contract in less than 7 days, as demand for neighborhoods like this is astronomical.
The subdivisions in Williamsburg are:
Lakeridge Village
Greenbriar Village
Lime Tree Village
Montpelier Village
Win-Gate Village
Windmill Pointe Village
Somerset Village
Parview Pointe
Watervista
Deer Creek
The latter four subdivisions host newer, larger homes, while the others are homes built closer to the initial opening of Williamsburg.
It is not uncommon to see a wide price range, as competition for this exclusive neighborhood is stiff, however expected prices can range from $135,000-$400,000.
